Tallahassee - The Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections (FSASE) announced the FSASE 2015 Legislative Leadership Award was recently presented to Senator Garrett Richter, Senate President Pro- Tempore and Committee Chair of Ethics and Elections, and Senator Jeff Clemens, who were instrumental in passing legislation that will make online voter registration a reality in Florida.
The over 20 states already using on-line voter registration capabilities report positive gains such as lower costs, more security, greater accuracy and partisan neutral results as it relates to registration rates.
“Through the bi-partisan efforts and leadership of both Senator Richter and Senator Clemens, our state will add another accessible and convenient way of registering to vote.” said Brian Corley. “We are truly grateful for the passing of this good public policy.”
The on-line voter registration legislation will be implemented by the state and Division of Elections in stages to ensure accuracy and security, and will be in full effect after the 2016 Presidential Election cycle. The on-line registration process will not be accessible to first-time registrants without the voter showing verification before casting a ballot.
